On December 20, 2019 our local Forestry industry was left disrupted after the decision that would effectively close the Northern Pulp Mill in Pictou County.

In response to this we, along with local partners, have started the Cumberland Forestry Advisory Committee.  The purpose of this Committee, as well as it’s sub-committees, will be to identify short and long term needs of the industry and to find solutions. Sub-committees are tasked with working on specific issues and opportunities which are then brought back to the Cumberland Forestry Advisory Committee for further discussion and recommendations.

As shown below, our Committees and sub-committees are working with the forestry community to come up with specific ideas to prevent the entire collapse of the forestry sector in Nova Scotia. The goal is to assist the industry to both survive and thrive. The committees are making recommendations to the Provincial Forestry Transition Team on ways to assist at this time. Please review our meeting minutes to get up to date on our work and strategy. Interested in getting involved? Please contact us.
