What is the Cumberland Business Connector?
The Cumberland Business Connector is a business-led, non-profit organization that fosters economic development in the geographic region of Cumberland County. We do this by supporting the business community and actively pursuing development initiatives across the region from Amherst to Wentworth, Advocate to Malagash, and everywhere in between.
We support current and prospective entrepreneurs, business owners and managers by actively listening to businesses, being their voice, helping them remove or navigate barriers, and connecting them to the services, tools and resources that they need to be successful.

Our History
Shortly after "Now or Never, An Urgent Call to Action for Nova Scotians" was released, a small group of local business people started meeting to talk about how, collectively, they could accomplish what no one business could do individually, and what government could no longer be asked or expected to do alone - make a significant, lasting difference to the economy of Cumberland County. The group quickly recognized the need for businesses to step up and take an active role in revitalizing the economy of Nova Scotia, particularly rural Nova Scotia.
With encouragement from local municipal governments the discussion was broadened to include a wide cross section of leaders in Cumberland County. Discussions lead to a three-pillar strategy to connect, support and influence existing businesses, youth and government decisions to drive economic development.
The Cumberland Business Connector incorporated as a not for profit society in 2016 and hired its first employee in the summer of 2017. The name "the Connector" was deliberately selected as that is how we see our role; this is symbolized in our branding by the stylized depiction of the Wallace River bridge.
